How to Put Content Onto Your PSP

To put the content onto your PSP, simply do the following:

  1. Download the file (usually by clicking the picture)
  2. Extract the file (if necessary)
  3. Connect your PSP to your computer using a USB cable.
  4. Set up your PSP for transfer in the menu by going to "Settings" and pressing "X" over the "USB Connection" option.
  5. On your computer (if it's a PC), wait for a window to pop up. Double-click "Open folder to view files." If a window doesn't pop up, then go to Start > My Computer, then click on the PSP drive (It will probably show up as "Removable Disk (X:).
  6. Here's where it gets a little tricky. Depending on the file type, the content goes in different places. The following is a list of where each file type is placed under (in each example, "X" can be ANY LETTER OR NUMBER.).
    • Folders containing .jpg files go under "X:\PSP\PHOTO\"
    • MAQXXXXX.MP4 files go under "X:\MP_ROOT\100ANV01\"
    • M4VXXXXX.MP4 files go under "X:\MP_ROOT\100MNV01\"
    • .mp3 files go under "X:\PSP\MUSIC\"
  7. After the file transfer is completed, disconnect the USB cord, find the content through your PSP's interface, and enjoy!

Important: If you do not have "X:\MP_ROOT\" on your PSP, then create the folder. Do this by right-clicking then selecting "New Folder." Then name the folder "MP_ROOT."

Yes, you can view the site from your PSP and download content, but only MP3s and video; there is no way to unzip other files from your PSP.

To view files on your iPod, you must first import the video into iTunes, then transfer it to your iPod from there.

When I hook my psp up, it says removeable disk (f:) not (x:), and I don't see the MP_ROOT on this. All I see when I click it is the PSP folder. I have v2.0, so I don't know what is wrong. How can I download the videos?

Submitted by digipatd on November 26, 2006 - 9:44pm.

the psp website sends something directly to the right folder when you download it. why can't you guys do that?

For files like MP3s and and video files (that aren't zipped) then yes. You cannot download and extract a zipped file on the PSP though.

Hi. You should make a page designed specifically for PSP that we can browse to from the PSP and get all the goodies that way.

You can browse the site from your PSP already, downloading MP3s and videos, but not magazines. I don't know if I'll be able to do this anytime soon. But you never know, I can talk to a few people...

Now this might just be me, but I'll throw it out just to be sure. I have downloaded the videos by Doug Godfrey both on my computer to put on the PSP and looked it up on the PSP itself. On my computer I did transfer it to the appropriate file as shown under the instructions. However I can't find it to play on my PSP when I look under VIDEOS or MUSIC. Then, on my PSP web browser, when I click on any of his videos on this website, it takes me to a page that fills up the whole screen with some code or language. I tried both ways multiple times, but I'm still trying to work around the problems.
My question is, have you dealt with this before? And, if so, how do I fix this problem?

If you transfer it using your computer, be sure to transfer it to \MP_ROOT\100MNV01
If you browse the internet on your PSP, move your mouse over the link, then press Triangle, then "Save Link Target."

I view my image I want to use as a background/wallpaper, but when I hit triangle, I don't see a "set as backround" button!
